Though Top Rank teased the possibility of this fight over the last couple of years, it never happened, to the immense disappointment of the fight public. Barring some disastrous occurrence in the training camp of either fighter in the form of a late injury, July 26 is the date when this monstrous welterweight showdown will happen. Miguel Cotto is undefeated and considered the top welterweight in the world. He has beaten some good older fighters, some faster and more skillful than himself – several top contenders and fighters that were successful at lower weights. But he has never faced anyone quite like Antonio Margarito.
Margarito is by far the biggest, strongest and toughest fighter that Cotto has ever come across. In fact, it is difficult to remember a time when Cotto was in a fight in which he was seriously overpowered and pressured to the extreme. Before his championship days, Cotto had a hard fight with Lovemore Ndou, in which Ndou forced the fight to Cotto to the end, testing ... |
